POSTERIOR PARASPINAL SOFT TISSUE TUMOR: CASE REPORT AND SURGICAL TECHNIQUE Michael L. Ramsey M.D., Lynn J. Stromberg M.D., Arvo Neidre M.D., John S. Toohey M.D., David A. Roberts M.D., John W. Brantigan M.D. POSTERIOR PARASPINAL SOFT TISSUE TUMOR: CASE REPORT AND SURGICAL TECHNIQUE Posterior paraspinal tumors are rare and technically difficult to resect. In the literature, few articles discuss paraspinal tumors and relatively none discuss posterior paraspinal tumors. Our case report describes 3 posterior paraspinal tumors and our technique for resection. Our technique describes a method to remove the posterior paraspinal tumor without violating the compartment. The average estimated blood loss 2600 cc and ranged from 1500 cc to 3500 cc. All patients underwent post-operative radiation. Two of the three patients had post-operative soft tissue injections that required I.V. antibiotics. None of the three patients had local recurrence. None of the patients had motor deficits post-operatively. In conclusion, no local recurrence is a good sign of adequate surgical resection of a soft tissue tumor. Back to Papers and Presentations |
