Dr. Toohey joined STOSSA in 1997 following an extensive history of training and medical staff appointments in Wisconsin, Oregon, Kansas, and Texas.
Dr. Toohey received his undergraduate degree in 1973, graduating with honors in distinction in the major, with a B.S. in History from the University of Wisconsin. He received his medical degree (M.D.) from the same institution in 1977. He then completed an internship and residency in Orthopedic Surgery at the Oregon Health Sciences University in 1982. Dr. Toohey's teaching credentials are equally impressive. He was a core faculty member and an attending staff member of the University of Kansas School of Medicine, Wichita Orthopedic Residency Program, from 1982 to 1995. In 1995, he was appointed as associate professor and Chief, Division of Spine Surgery at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio, serving in this capacity until 1997. Dr. Toohey has held several administrative appointments, including Chairman, Orthopedic Department of the Wichita Clinic, PA, 1989 to 1995, Chief Orthopedic Section, Veterans Administration Medical Center, Wichitia, KS, Chief of Spine Service, University Hospital in South Veteran's Health Care System, Audie Murphy Division, San Antonio, Texas 1995-1997. Dr. Toohey is certified by the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery. An active member of numerous medical and orthopedic societies, Dr. Toohey presents and lectures frequently thoughout the local area, as well as nationally and internationally. An avid golfer, Dr. Toohey enjoys working on his better-than-average game. His wife, Myrna, is a fitness enthusiast. His son, Matthew, is a college golfer at Rice University. His daughter, Jaclyn, will be playing college volleyball at the University of Mississippi. His immediate family circle provides ample relaxing distractions from his busy medical practice. |
