
Arvo Neidre, M.D.
The founder of STOSSA, Dr. Neidre has practiced Orthopaedic Surgery in San Antonio since 1976. Born in Estonia, Dr. Neidre was educated in Canada, receiving his undergraduate and medical (M.D.) degrees from the University of Toronto.
Dr. Neidre completed a year of internship, a year of post-graduate work in specialized anatomy, and five years of additional specialty training in orthopaedic surgery at the University of Toronto in Canada before moving to San Antonio in 1976 to assume a faculty position at the University of Texas Health Science Center in the Division of Orthopaedics, where he established a spine surgery program for the orthopaedic department. Dr. Neidre moved to private practice in 1980, but he still maintains a part-time teaching position at the UTHSC Medical School as a Clinical Assistant Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery.
Dr. Neidre is both a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada and a Diplomat of the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgeons, by examination. In addition to the everyday challenges associated with running an association of renowned medical specialists and surgeons, Dr. Neidre enjoys all of the quality time he can get with his two children, Christopher and Daria, and his wife, Bridget.

John S. Toohey, M.D.
Dr. Toohey joined STOSSA in 1997 following an extensive history of training and medical staff appointments in Wisconsin, Oregon, Kansas, and Texas. Dr. Toohey received his undergraduate degree in 1973, graduating with honors and distinction in the major, with a B.S. in History from the University of Wisconsin. He received his medical degree (M.D.) from the same institution in 1977. He then completed an internship and residency in Orthopedic Surgery at the Oregon Health Sciences University in 1982. Dr. Toohey's teaching and research credentials are equally impressive. He was a core faculty member and an attending staff member of the University of Kansas School of Medicine, Wichita Orthopedic Residency Program, from 1982 to 1995. In 1995, he was appointed as associate professor and Chief, Division of Spine Surgery at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio, serving in this capacity until 1997. Dr. Toohey then received additional training in Spinal Surgery Fellowship at South Texas Orthopedic and Spinal Surgery Associates/University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio in 1997.
Dr. Toohey has held several administrative appointments, including Chairman, Orthopaedic Department of the Wichita Clinic, PA, 1989 to 1995, Chief, Orthopedic Section, Veterans Administration Medical Center, Wichita, KS, Chief, Spine Service, University Hospital and South Texas Veteran's Health Care System, Audie Murphy Division, San Antonio, Texas 1995-1997. Dr. Toohey is currently Chief of Adult Spinal Surgery in the department of Orthopaedic Surgery at the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio. In addition, he oversees the Orthopaedic Residency Program at Methodist Hospital. Dr. Toohey is certified by the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery, having done so in 1984, 1995, and 2005. An active member of numerous medical and orthopedic societies, Dr. Toohey lectures frequently throughout the local area, as well as nationally and internationally. Dr. Toohey is President-elect of the Mid-America Orthopaedic Association. An avid golfer, Dr. Toohey enjoys working on his better-than-average game. His wife, Myrna, is a fitness enthusiast, currently involved in contemplative outreach programs throughout the United States. His son, Matthew, is a former college golfer at Rice University where he was an Academic All-American. He recently graduated from the University of Houston Law School and is currently practicing in Houston, Texas. His daughter, Jaclyn, completed four years of volleyball at the University of Mississippi. During her last year, she was a member of the All Southeastern Conference Volleyball Team. She is currently in graduate school at the Denver Seminary. His immediate family circle, including two spoiled golden retrievers, provides ample relaxing distractions from his busy medical practice.
